#FireworkPeople Blog Tour: A New Found Passion

Hello there! Today I'm joining the #fireworkpeople blog/instagram tour! First things first, what even is #FireworkPeople?

We are a community for creatives, dreamers and entrepreneurs who want to change the world. We are knee-deep in encouragement and high-fives. We are unstoppable.

The above definition is taken straight from our Facebook group description. And you can join us right here!
So today I'm talking about a new found passion that I LITERALLY discovered like 2 weeks ago! I don't know whether to be surprised at this interest because I come from a family of creatives but still!

For the past two weeks, I've been passionate about creating beautiful items, in terms of sewing. Let's be real, the last time I touched a sewing machine....yeaaa lets say like 4 years ago? And we don't currently OWN a sewing machine but you guys I'm so so so excited about this.

I'm absolutely passionate about the creative process. How you can go from a blank spread in a visual journal, to pages filled with creativity and best of all, pages filled with everything that represents you. How you can go from a few pieces of fabric, a needle and thread to a beautiful coin purse, or a camera strap.

In other words, I've been dragging my mom around town to find fabric stores and other essentials and it feels so great to be creative and to LEARN. I've never been THIS excited to learn how to sew...or anything to do with math in general...awks.

But yes, I'm hoping I'll be able to turn this into a business because well why not? What better time to start than now, am I right?

So this is some encouragement for you dear reader. If there's something you're REMOTELY interested in, try it out! Don't be scared to jump right in, even if you have little to no experience. Because for real, the first time I back-stitched, it was absolutely horrendous! But practice makes perfect.  And now my stitches are somewhat straight. Sorta kinda. But yes! See where it takes you, you might just fall in love with it!

I'm so so so so excited about this new "season", in my life, if you will! I hope and pray that I do all of this to the glory of God!

It's A Beautiful Day Not To Be in High School

The sun is shining. The birds are singing a song of praise, and I'm probably still asleep. Also known as, I'm enjoying this gap year a little too much. And here are 9 reasons why!

Waking up at 6:00 to leave the house at exactly 7:14AM is no longer a thing.

Being on the bus whilst sleep deprived featuring noisy elementary kids is not the life I live.

general emotions regarding high school struggles
Running to Physiology and Anatomy as fast as my 50-kilo messenger bag will take me before the bell rings, is no longer my daily workout.

Looking forward to naps on the bus isn't the highlight of my day anymore.

Leaving the house in SWEATPANTS is literally a thing of the past #callmesweatpantsqueen.

People *cough* freshmen *cough* talking loudly at 7:55AM is no longer my portion.

Being the CEO of the StruggleBus Industries is no longer my full-time occupation.

Phrases like "doing homework on Sunday evenings and "what's due tomorrow" have been temporarily deleted from my dictionary.

MLA format? Works Cited? Who are those? Did they go to school with us?

this is my happy to not be in high school anymore face

Needless to say, I'm so enjoying this gap year! Doing all of my favorite things and seeing where God leads me! Also, there's so much freedom that comes with taking a gap year. Like yo, I can wake up one day and say, you know what, I haven't had a strawberry lemonade from Java in a while.. LET ME JUUUUST.

And then it just kinda..you know.. happens, just like that. On the other hand, time management is a real thing. I'm still learning how to account for time spent. The only reason I'm not running around town doing artsy fartsy things is because I can't drive yet. But LETZ BE REAL. If I could drive, would I be found in the house 24/7? Probably, but I'd also be like..doing brunch and stuff..you know. or nah.

But I'd be lying if I said senior year wasn't the most hilarious, most shenanigan-filled year of high school. I'm so so so grateful for all the experiences and all the amazing teachers that made my high school experience what it was. It was indeed the apex {shout out to AP Literature} of struggle but yea, high school, I'm so over youuu.

*In other news, I did the accent challenge with Korban, which you can check out over here! You can really experience how in shambles and awkward I truly am! Go watch it!*

The Gap Year Grind | 5 Lessons Learnt So Far

Hello!
I just realized that in a couple of days I'll be hitting the two month mark of my gap year! It has gone by so fast, it's a little crazy. But at the same time I'm SO excited to see what God will do in my life during this time.

However, in just two months I've learnt a few things about myself and about God.

First things first, "unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain". [Psalms 127: 1]

If it's not God's plan, you can't force it to be. And even if you do, it won't turn out A+. You just have to go with the flow of things. At the beginning of my gap year I applied for two different internships. One never got back to me and the other one asked me to reapply in January. I was a bit bummed out because I was so ready to be productive the ways I THOUGHT I wanted to be.

But God is too great because Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future". That's an amazing promise. And as always, He came through.

I began volunteering at the New Life Home Trust, a babies' home and I enjoy my time there so much! I've learnt so many skills [bottle and spoon feeding, entertaining toddlers, speaking in baby language aw yea] and I've been TRULY blessed by that place. It gets so tired taking care of children uhuh but it's so worth it. Especially seeing them smile.

How awesome is God? For real!

And now, I'm an assistant for my children's service at church {durr, where else} and I love EVERY. SINGLE. CHILD. I got the chance to start the J-Church choir, and it's so mind-blowing how God has used all those years of music lessons and choir classes for this! IT'S HONESTLY so great I can't even explain how grateful and in awe of God I am! I'm just praying that He would lead in every single thing.

Also, some things that I've learnt about myself that are significant to me, but are insignificant because my God is greater than all of them put together would be the fact that:

  • I am extremely impatient, like bruh I can count so many moments just these past two weeks were I've gotten so impatient, which then leads to anger smh [and that's not a fruit of the Spirit so I need to be rid of that]
  • I am inconsistent with so many things. Exhibit A: this blog in itself.
  • I like to do things on my own regarding some things, but I have no strength of my own. My strength comes from the Lord.
And last but not the least:
I am in desperate need of His grace and guidance every.single.hour.

I'm curious to see how God transforms me this year!
How about you? Have you being noticing little things that God is transforming in you? I want to hear about it!

#BloggersBeLike: 9 Things [Lifestyle] Bloggers Appreciate

In other words, give us any of these and we will love you.

  1. Succulents
Because yes. If you don't have succulents in your home then you actually can't sit with us.

 2. Peonies. But if push comes to shove, fresh flowers {preferably in mason jars}will do.
I don't know who gave peonies permission to be so gorgeous but I'm not complaining.

 3. Monograms
Because they're kinda awesome. No questions asked.

4. Pretty journals and planners
Having our lives and blogs somewhat organized is essential.

 5. Coffee
Even though I'm not an avid coffee drinker, this doesn't need an explanation. Apparently "coffee is a hug in a mug", and who doesn't like hugs?

 6. White spaces
Is this just me? White bed sheets, blankets and walls are the winners. All day. Every day.

 7. Water-color and hand-lettered prints
Inspirational prints around our creative spaces make us more awesome bloggers. It's scientifically proven.

What would our Instagram photos be like without our dearest VSCOcam? I'm not quite sure.

and last but not the least

 9. Pumpkin Spice Lattes + Fall
Living in Kenya, pumpkin spice lattes are not a thing {or maybe I'm not in the loop?}, much less the season of fall. It's either really hot and dry, or it's rainy and cold.
But it's definitely something I've seen a lot these past few weeks with bloggers from the States.

This was such a fun post to do but that's all I can think of. These are my own observations and don't apply to every blogger.
What other things do bloggers appreciate? I hope your weekend has been relaxing!
